Mnozil Brass

Mnozil Brass, from Austria, has established its position as one of the world's leading brass bands. It has been performing to full concert halls around the world at an annual rate of more than 130 performances and captivating the audience with its performances that combine virtuoso playing and comedy theatre. Mnozil Brass, called the Monty Python of the music world, has collected their best numbers from their nearly 30-year career in a show called Gold.

The band's name refers to Gasthaus Mnozil, located in Vienna's famous 1. Bezirk quarter, opposite the conservatory. In 1993, seven young brass players took part in a series of regularly organized concerts in the restaurant. That’s how Mnozil Brass was born. Its carefully constructed performances include wordless sketch humor and theater as well as jazz, pop hits, typical brass music, opera and operetta. The interim all-night show by extremely skilled players is a comprehensively entertaining experience for viewers of all ages.

Mnozil Brass arrives in Finland after a break of over a decade. It has previously visited Lieksa Brass Week three times, where all the band's concerts have been sold out. Mnozil Brass has not performed in the capital region before, so the April Jazz audience is offered a particularly awaited premiere.

Dawda Jobarteh / Stefan Pasborg Duo

The duo of Dawda Jobarteh and Stefan Pasborg is an unique meeting between two charismatic gentlemen from two different music cultures, and from two different continents. A melting-pot of styles mixed together into an output based on mutual love for strong rhythmical shapes, beautiful melodies and the pure energy in music. Jobarteh and Pasborg have performed as a duo for 10 years at many venues and festivals in Europe and Africa.

“Dawda Jobarteh and Stefan Pasborg’s Duo is unique on more than one level. This duo is beyond genre and at times quite far-reaching. The emotionally and electrically charged cover pieces are aggressive, shifting and challenging as they deconstruct sound and create an organic alternative to conventional expectations. The more customary pieces still manage to merge African tradition, world-beat percussion and unusual instrumentation to produce a fundamentally innovative and expressively stimulating sound.’’ – All About Jazz, USA.
