World premier of two concertos!

Between Dark And Light, a concerto composed by Alexi Tuomarila, will be interpreted by Alexi Tuomarila Trio and Tapiola Sinfonietta conducted by Jukka Iisakkila. Tuomarila is one of Finland’s most acclaimed jazz artists internationally. Norwegian bassist Mats Eilertsen and Finnish drummer Olavi Louhivuori are part of the trio that has released four albums. Their most recent album, Sphere (Edition Records), was awarded the best jazz album of the year in Finland at the 2020 Emma Awards.

Jukka Eskola, winner of the 2022 Yrjö Award, will perform as the soloist of Jukka Linkola’s new flugelhorn concerto. Eskola has appeared on hundreds of Finnish record releases, participated as a session musician in several television entertainment programs and played as a soloist with several large orchestras. He is also a familiar sight in the ranks of Espoo Big Band.

Jukka Linkola, who is celebrating his 50th anniversary as an artist, is a versatile professional in the Finnish music scene, whose extensive production covers several styles from jazz to classical and film music. Linkola, who plays the piano as his main instrument, received the Finnish Jazz Federation’s prestigious Yrjö Award already in 1979.

Jukka Iisakkila, has regularly visited Europe's major new music ensembles and symphony orchestras. He has worked with several domestic and foreign artists both as an instrumentalist and composing and arranging classical music as well as popular and jazz music. Currently, Iisakkila works as a guest of the Dutch Metropole Orchestra and the Norwegian Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and as an assistant professor of conducting at the Stavanger University College of Music.

Tapiola Sinfonietta has established itself as an internationally known chamber orchestra. Bold programming and nuanced interpretations have been praised regardless of era and style. The orchestra is right at home with the interdisciplinary cross-over program. For April Jazz, Tapiola Sinfonietta has long been an important, with whom we can create concerts that cross genre boundaries, surprise the audience and offer new experiences.
