Jazz Finland Live

A saxophonist and multi-talent, Jone Takamäki is one of the giants of Finnish improvised music. He is perhaps best remembered from his own trio, which was active in the early 80s, and the long-standing group Krakatau, led by guitarist Raoul Björkenheim. Other notable groups have been quartet Otna Eahket and trio MA-A. Recent years have seen Takamäki to broaden his instrumental array with the Japanese flutes shakuhachi and hochiku. 

Drummer Markku Ounaskari belongs to the most respected Finnish drummers, having made a notable career both in Finnish and international groups. His bandmates include the likes of Iro Haarla, Kari Ikonen, Sinikka Langeland, Trygve Seim, Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, Tomasz Stanko and Marc Ducret. 

Takamäki and Ounaskari will soon release a duo album.

The final event of the series comprises free jazz and free improvisation. Staalinin urut, the core group of which consists of the younger generation of the Kesti family and representatives of the leading names among Finnish saxophonists, will take to the stage.

Voodoo Jazz Sound Zone part II: Mikko Innanen is a Lapinjärvi-born saxophonist and composer who has established himself during the past dozen years as one of the most innovative Finnish jazzers. He works and has worked as a bandleader, co-leader, guest soloist and composer, and a defining presence in such groups as Mikko Innanen & Innkvisitio, PLOP, Delirium, Gourmet and Mikko Innanen Trio. He has released more than 20 albums as a leader and 15 as a sidemen to date.

The Berlin-based guitarist-composer Kalle Kalima joins forces with UMO in this unique concert that plunges into the soundscapes of Quentin Tarantino, Originally written for NDR Big Band, "the German UMO", in 2012, Pulp Friction is a composition series that borrows from the funk of the 70s and the atmosphere of classic detective movies. A bit like Lalo Schifrin, yet very Kalima.

Jaska Lukkarinen Trio – a trio of true troupers – turns ten in 2017. Formed by the eponymous drummer, saxophonist Jussi Kannaste and bassist Antti Lötjönen, the stellar group celebrates their decade-long career by hitting the road on a tour and releasing two EP's, first of which is due out in November 2016 and the second in March 2017. The music has come from the pen of one of the hottest name in the scene at the moment: composer-guitarist Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen, Lukkarinen's bandmate from Dalindèo and Ricky-Tick Big Band.
