Tickets 32–55 €
The closing concert of Jyväskylä Festival will feature an exceptional line-up this July, as pianist and composer Heikki Sarmanto performs together with the Jyväskylä Workshop Band, an ensemble bringing together some of the leading names in Finnish jazz.
The concert programme spans multiple eras and will also include the world premiere of a new composition by Sarmanto dedicated to the festival. This unique closing concert has been created specifically for the Jyväskylä Festival.
The ensemble references the original 1970 Jyväskylä Workshop Band and brings together several key figures of Finnish jazz from different decades. Alongside Sarmanto (piano), the line-up features Juki Välipakka (vocals), Juhani Aaltonen (flute), Reino Laine (drums), Jukka Eskola (trumpet), Eero Koivistoinen (saxophone), and Ulf Krokfors (bass). The seven-member ensemble has an average age of 72.
In 2026, it will be 100 years since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland with the ship Andania. The year thus marks a historic centenary celebration for Finnish jazz: Jazz in Finland 100. The anniversary highlights Finnish jazz and its artists both in Finland and abroad, celebrating jazz as part of Finland’s cultural heritage. The Jazz in Finland 100 campaign is coordinated by the Finnish Jazz Federation.
