JAZZ-ESPA 2022
AT 15.00 MATHIAS SANDBERG TRIO
Mathias Sandberg – guitar, Zacharias Holmkvist – bass, Stefan Brokvist – drums
Jazz guitarist and composer Mathias Sandberg, described as “one of Finland’s best kept secrets” by the American JAZZIZ Magazine, is one of the hardest-working jazz musicians in the country. His Jazz-Espa concert will feature the trio’s distinctive melange of ”hard swingin', groovy & soulful jazz”, laced with strong melodies, rhythmically playful improvisations, and almost telepathic levels of ensemble playing.

AT 17.30 NATHAN FRANCIS QUARTET
Eero Koivistoinen – saxophone, Markus Niittynen – piano, Nathan Francis – double bass, Aleksi Heinola – drums
Nathan Francis Quartet marks the debut of Nathan Francis as a band leader. Since his 2018 arrival in Finland, Francis has been active in many other ensembles. His new quartet transcends generational boundaries, with more than 50 years between its youngest and oldest members. The quartet’s music is straightforward, swinging, and valuable in an emotional context and in the discography of its members.
