On Thursday, 3 March, the opening act of Savoy JAZZFest is the multinational supergroup Artemis, led by pianist Renee Rosnes. Groups consisting of only female artists remain rare in the world of jazz. In addition to Rosnes, the members of Artemis include clarinettist and soprano saxophonist Anat Cohen, trumpeter Alexander Ridout, tenor saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda and drummer Allison Miller. The group, which published their debut album ARTEMIS under the legendary Blue Note record label in 2020, were meant to perform at Savoy Theatre in the same autumn of the same year, but the tour was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Artemis made its breakthrough in the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival where Don Was, CEO of Blue Note, the most significant record label in the history of jazz, heard the group play and was thoroughly impressed.

“I was one of the thousands of Newport Jazz Festival attendees whose mind was blown by Artemis on that sunny August afternoon. Even though each member is a jazz titan on their own right, Artemis is a rare group that is more than the sum of its brilliant parts,” Was praised the group.

The Finnish improvisation trio F# is a thrilling live act. Three acclaimed and prize-winning composers/musicians meet on stage and create spontaneously exciting soundscapes, tight grooves, beautiful melodies and fascinating textures. Often their concerts are completely improvised, no preparations or agreements are made beforehand. At other times, spontaneously, there might slip in a composition by Sid Hille. The Finnish saxophone legend Pepa Päivinen joined F# for upcoming concerts in 2022.
