Jazz Finland Live

In 2013 Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana's first album, Burnaa, -- a unique combination of jazz and rap on any scale -- proved a critical succes. After a series of acclaimed and enthusiastically received live shows, they returned to stages in 2015 with a sophomore, Korottaa Panoksii, in their pocket.

Composed of the cream of Finland's rising jazz generation and three rap troupers, Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana bring together the best of Finnish jazz and rap. Guitarist Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen's compositions draw upon Duke Ellington's late works and the energetic sound of Buddy Rich Big Band, but do not abandon the robust big band aesthetics of the debut album. The three rappers, Paleface, Redrama and Tommy Lindgren, lean heavily upon turn-taking, in the style of old-school rap, and the majority of the lyrics have come together in their collective writing sessions.
