Tanssii kanssa ajan – Vanhaa ja uutta Suomi-iskelmää: UMO solisteinaan Jukka Perko ja Yona,Malmitalo, helsinki10.10. At 19:00

Conductor Kari Heinilä
The ‘Dances with time’ concept was received with enthusiasm early in the year and is therefore being reprised in the autumn. Sax player Jukka Perko, a major name in Finnish jazz, and the idiosyncratic young singer and songwriter Yona will bring the moods and nostalgia of Finnish schlagers to Kanneltalo and Malmitalo in October 2013. The concert is a charming combination of beloved tunes and the wistful dance-pavilion atmosphere of Yona’s music.
The programme includes very familiar titles such as Akselin ja Elinan häävalssi and Hiljainen kylätie, newly arranged by Vellu Halkosalmi. They are joined by Yona’s own music such as Kellon alla and Panssarivaunu, arranged for large jazz band for this production. UMO will be conducted by Kari Heinilä.
“An enchanting blend of schlagers and jazz.” – Jukka Hauru / Helsingin Sanomat, 2 March 2013

Pianist Joonas Haavisto, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Joonas Riippa have all established their positions amongst the Finnish "Top Ten" jazzers. They have played in e.g. UMO Jazz Orchestra, Five Cornes Quintet, Verneri Pohjola Quartet and Mikko Pellinen Mini Big Band. Trio marches proudly on towards their 10-year anniversary, having performed at numerous domestic and international festivals and recently toured in the UK and France. Joonas Haavisto has also enjoyed success in international solo piano competitions such as Jazz Improvizacija in Lithuania 2006, and Nottingham International
Solo Piano Competition in 2010.
The latest album from this dynamic trio dives into the world of physics and nature, and it is descriptively titled 'Micro to Macro'. Haavisto's intriguing compositions and the fresh Scandinavian breeze in the trio's sound have charmed the critics and audiences in Japan, where the record was voted number one within the newcomers by the country's biggest record stores, Tower Records and Disk Union. The album was released in Japan by Blue Gleam, and in Finland by Fredriksson Music.
The Finnish Jazz Federation (FJF) organizes five domestic tours in fall 2013. The tours are supported by the Ministry of Education
and The Finnish Music Foundation MES.
