This year’s special feature is Ping Pong. The festival invites the cream of Finnish jazz musicians Riitta Paakki, Rocka Merilahti, Rafa Postel and Valtteri Pöyhönen to play in a ping pong tournament with the lively Danish organ-drum duo, Born2Bingo. The band sets the rhythm for the jazz musicians’ ping pong face-off. The results of the mini-tournament will determine how the show continues on stage.

The incredible Born2Bingo, masters of organ jazz, Simon Eskildsen on organ & Daniel Sommer on drums, have been playing together for almost 20 years, are ready to entertain their audience. Based on friendship, the duo offers a mix of tight rhythms, beautiful melodies, and anything in between – all with a twinkle in their eye.

Kadi Vija 3 is a brand new entrant on the Finnish jazz scene. The band's music includes jazz, literally. The composition of the band and Vija's compositions resemble the traditional combination of trumpet/saxophone – double bass – drums.

Singer Kadi Vija, double bass player Mikael Saastamoinen and drummer Ville Luukkonen manage to create an environment and sound that includes the joy of music, freedom and space to experiment.

Afro-American jazz vocalist Sharón Clark and Scandinavian pianist Mattias Nilsson have been touring together around the world ever since they met at a jam session in New York, 2012.

The acclaimed Sharón Clark is world-renowned for her vibrato and incomparable tonality She has been compared to the great ones. Clark has performed as a featured soloist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, and the Baltimore Symphony, and she has won first place in the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition.

The internationally acclaimed and award-winning Swedish pianist Mattias Nilsson, has with more than two thousand concerts in 34 countries around the world established himself as one of Sweden's most personal pianists with his very own voice. Nilsson incorporates the Scandinavian folklore and Nordic melancholy, with influences from classical, folk and jazz music. Through his improvisations and a very warm and personal approach, this becomes a unique expression and a musical landscape with completely new shades of color.

KAIRA is an interesting combination of top musical and cultural influencers. Band's idea is extraordinary. Once a decade, a group of leading jazz musicians join forces to make an album of new Finnish jazz. The composition of the band varies according to the music genre.  

KAIRA's second album, AIR, was released in March 2024. The music is written by Markus Niittynen and Lauri Kaira, and the album's impressive atmosphere is complemented by a strong brass section representing the absolute best of Finnish jazz.

Known above all for his energetic, improvisation-based concerts, Arppa with his band is one of the top names in current Finnish indie-genre. Arppa's delightful music is timeless and the lyrics are like moving pictures - the insightful, sincere and perceptively described atmospheres move from Kokkola's Ykspihlaja all the way through night time Helsinki to a secret hideout with Laila Kinnunen on July '58.

12 Points Festival brings twelve rising jazz artists to Finland from twelve different European countries. The festival will take place from September 25th to 28th at G Livelab in Tampere. The event is organized by the Irish music promotion company Improvised Music Company and the music venue G Livelab Tampere.

The performing artists include Selma Savolainen Horror Vacui (Finland), Fixity (Ireland), Emmeluth’s Amoeba (Norway), Beyond (Lithuania), Invisible Painters (Italy), Karmen Rõivassepp Quartet (Denmark), Pawky (Sweden), Ingibjörg Elsa Turchi (Iceland), Inui (France), /kry (Austria), Sc’ööf (Switzerland), and TamTam (Estonia). Each of the four festival nights will feature performances by three different bands. The festival will be hosted by Verneri Pohjola, who gained international recognition through the 12 Points Festival.

The Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at G Livelab will conclude with free late-night jam sessions, where in past years, many new musical friendships and even new jazz ensembles have formed. The jam sessions will be hosted by local musicians Markus Pajakkala and Juho Kanervo, joined by Tampere-based groups Kielo Kärkkäinen & Friend Soup, Hot Heros, and !imouS.

In conjunction with the festival, the Jazz Futures Conference will also be held in Tampere, in collaboration with the Better Live EU project and the Tampere City Library. The free conference, held at Tampere's main library Metso, will explore the current state of jazz and, most importantly, its future. This year, discussions will focus on the future of jazz in relation to environmental issues, sustainability, and accessibility.

The Tampere 12 Points Festival is supported by the City of Tampere, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation. The event is also partnered with Operaatio Pirkanmaa.
