When Pikku Papun Orkesteri gets together with the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, you get a biiiig children’s concert for the whole family at Vuotalo!

Pikku Papu’s immensely popular hits will be heard in familiar but new versions, arranged for a big band. With over 20 members in the orchestra, there’s plenty to see and listen to: melodious and shiny trumpets, trombones and saxophones, with rhythmic piano, bass, guitar and drums. The arrangements are made by Mikko Hassinen, who also conducts the concert.

During the concert, even the little ones can join in the songs and fun. Screams of joy and dancing are allowed – even desirable!

Note! Especially with the smallest concertgoers, we recommend preparing for loud volumes with earmuffs or plugs.

Saxophonist Adele Sauros’ quartet will be performing in seven locations across Finland this September. Following the release of their latest album, the group embarked on an extensive international tour in the spring of 2024, and their ensemble playing is at its highest level ever.

The Adele Sauros Quartet was founded in 2012 and has performed at the most significant jazz festivals in both Finland and the Nordic countries. Combining styles from Nordic and American jazz, the quartet is heading on a Jazz Federation tour, presenting material from their new album. The tour begins in Kotka on September 16th, followed by performances in Helsinki, Joensuu, Savonlinna, Riihimäki, Oulu, and Mäntsälä.

The Adele Sauros Quartet’s fourth album, Your Special Loss, was released in March 2024 by the Spanish record label Fresh Sound Records. The band’s album release tours have extended beyond Finland to Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Spain. The album features compositions by Adele Sauros that explore themes of recovery and finding hope. The melodic and serious compositions draw influences from both Nordic and American jazz.

Saxophonist Adele Sauros is one of the most active jazz musicians and composers in Finland and Europe today. Sauros believes that music can change the world, especially when creating art on one’s own terms, as her quartet does. The band’s members are virtuosic jazz musicians with open minds, courage to break from conventions, and a readiness to dive into spontaneous improvisation.

Sauros and her band are eagerly looking forward to the September tour after their summer break from performing.

“We can’t wait for the Jazz Federation tour, especially after a small break over the summer when all of our summer gigs had to be canceled due to my broken wrist,” Sauros says.

Finnish Jazz Federation’s essential form of operation is national touring. The annual touring activities enable approximately 100 concerts in 40 different locations all over Finland. The concerts mainly take place in their member organizations. Tours include both in-house productions and collaborations with external producers.

The engaging and intimate concerts of Estonian musicians, singer-pianist Kadri Voorand and bassist Mihkel Mälgand, cross language and genre boundaries. The gigging duo has performed at several international jazz festivals, such as the ELG London Jazz Festival and the Beijing Nine Gates Jazz Festival, and now in the fall they are coming to Kokkola's ELive Jazz Lounge!

Kadri Voorand is an Estonian singer-songwriter who uniquely combines folk music, folk, jazz and improvised pop in his music. Voorand's storytelling abilities make him one of the most interesting young names in European jazz. Voorand has won almost every award possible in his home country, including the Estonian Music Awards, and has worked with internationally known names such as composer/conductor Kristjan Järve and pop artist NOËP. Since 2020, Voorand has recorded for ACT, one of Europe's top labels.

Award-winning bassist Mihkel Mälgand is one of the most active Estonian bassists, who has collaborated with e.g. With Kurt Elling, Nils Landgren and Dave Liebman. He is also the arranger and co-writer on Voorand's latest album "In Duo with Mihkel Mälgand".
