Jazz Finland Live

In October Club Iholla presents young talents of Finnish jazz. Vocalist Josefiina Vannesluoma and pianist Toomas Keski-Säntti paint delicate and dynamic soundscapes with their compositions and a fresh quartet BAK combines avantgarde, free jazz and visual elements to a modern whole.

KESKI-SÄNTTI X VANNESLUOMA In the beginning, Helsinki-based pianist Toomas Keski-Säntti and singer Josefiina Vannesluoma only wanted to improvise. Some of their material eventually evolved to more structured compositions that yet have not lost their originality and sense of freedom. At best the music fluctuates as a dynamic sound installation, with texts by Leena Kuusisto and Vannesluoma. BAK BAK is a group of young musicians from Helsinki. The members describe their sound as modern jazz, but they also incorporate sounds of free-jazz and avantgarde into their music. BAK's music is a blend of an energetic rhythm section and flowing saxophone-melodies. Original compositions, visual elements and special instruments built by Kolanen himself bring a profound and original touch to BAK's music.
