Gala Concert: Iiro Rantala and Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen,Die Glocke @ jazzahead!, bremen28.4. At 20:00

Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen

keikka

The jazzahead! 2017 gala concert connects Bremen with Finland by putting Iiro Rantala and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen on stage together at Die Glocke. Iiro Rantala is currently probably the most famous jazz musician from Finland. He has shaken up the international jazz scene with his band Trio Töykeät for decades now. In his virtuoso way, Iiro Rantala also links jazz with classical music, as he has felt at home in both spheres from the outset: he studied jazz piano at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and studied classical piano in the US, where jazz actually originates.

For the first time in Germany, he will be presenting a few of his pieces with orchestra. Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie lends itself particularly well to being a partner in Bremen. And as the orchestra is already playing some of his pieces, he in return will perform a Mozart piano concert – with an improvised cadence, of course.

LINE-UP: Iiro Rantala, Piano | Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen | Ltg. Florian Donderer

keikka

Dalindèo is a sextet founded in 2003 and led by composer and guitarist Valtteri Pöyhönen. The group’s unique sound consists of danceable rhythms, strong melodies and an emphasis on the craftsmanship of top musicians, with influences drawn from composer giants such as Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin and Duke Ellington. Dalindèo’s fourth album Slavic Souls blends contemporary jazz with traditional Finnish Tango music and northern schlager, taking a somewhat darker turn than their previous works.

Steve Gadd Band

keikka

Drums master Steve Gadd is among the most respected and emulated musicians in the world – an anomaly whose panache for playing precisely what a piece of music requires plus bringing signature taste, style and energy to the proceedings has resulted in hundreds of the most rhythmically exhilarating moments in recorded music history, across genres.

Amazingly, as he was laying down custom classic grooves for “pop” records such as Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” Rickie Lee Jones’ “Chuck E.’s In Love,” Van McCoy’s “The Hustle” and Barbra Streisand & Barry Gibb’s “Guilty”, he was simultaneously recording landmark jazz-rock fusion masterpieces such as Steely Dan’s “Aja,” The Brecker Brothers’ “Night Flight”, Al Jarreau’s “Spain,” and Chick Corea’s “Nite Sprite”. Couple all of that with his charisma and drive as a live performer for artists from Eric Clapton to James Taylor and it is clear: no other drummer has impacted jazz and popular music like Steve Gadd.

For the first time in Finland, Steve Gadd will be performing with a line-up from the legendary James Taylor all-star band.

Free Fall Nights: Timo Lassy & Aili Ikonen,Kulttuurikeskus Vernissa, vantaa28.4. At 20:00

keikka

The April edition of club series Free Fall Nights features saxophonist Timo Lassy and singer Aili Ikonen!

Each edition is full of surprises -- neither the musicians nor the audience will know what is going to happen beforehand. The almost 4-hour music experience is composed of three parts: Upcoming Talent, Headlining Star and Free Fall Jam Session. Members of the audience are free to join in!

The Free Fall Houseband is led by trumpeter Kalevi Louhivuori and comprises a string of A-listing musicians. It is the houseband that will set the pace and the style -- each star will have to jump right in and hurl themselves out of their comfort zone even when performing their own songs. This is the philosphy of Free Fall.

Free Fall Spring Season:

3 Feb 2017 Johanna Försti and Biniyam Schelling
24 Feb 2017 Tuomo and Tuuli Ikonen
31 Mar 2017 Emma Salokoski and Hilkka Louhivuori
28 Apr 2017 Timo Lassy and Aili Ikonen
26 May 2017 Janna and Eva Louhivuori
