The half-British, half-Finnish singer-songwriter John McGregor released his first album Joki in 2005. After his second album Maa ei oo Pimee in 2007 he has been quiet for seven years but now he is returning with his new album Luota that is released on his gig at G Livelab. Together with his new album, McGregor presents his new group including percussionist Samuli Kosminen and guitarist Jarmo Saari.

Mopo, a collective of three talented and energetic musicians, was founded in 2009. The trio draws its inspiration from jazz, punk and nature. Mopo is working on its fourth album, due for release in spring 2017 – perhaps just in time for the Malmitalo gig.

The next edition of Validi Karkia club series presents quartet MOTU, led by the Belgian drummer-composer Lionel Beuvens. Beuvens first started collaborating with Finns pianist Alexi Tuomarila and trumpeter Kalevi Louhivuori in 2011, and the fruits of collaboration can be enjoyed on the album Earth Song, released in early 2017, and now at Pori. For the Validi concert they will be joined by bassist Eero Seppä, known from the organ trio Buba Wii Aa and mini big band Koko Jazz Orchestra.

In April concert series Olavin Jazz will be playing host to the tour Rundi3, seeing three woman-led groups take the stage at Savonlinna's restaurant Wanha Kasino.
Maija Kauhanen is a one-woman group, that marries her kantele with polyrhythms and techno-like beats. SO III's music has been described as avant-garde folk music: the group combines violin, percussion, live electronics and new Finnish poetry. Stringpurée Band plays progressive rock on electric kanteles.
