Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno will perform for the first time in Finland this autumn. Moreno mixes blues, jazz and r'n'b in her music and she was awarded a Grammy in the category of best new artist last year.

Gaby Moreno was born and raised in Guatemala and she started listening to blues, r&b and soul at a young age. Singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin inspired her to take on singing herself. A little over 10 years ago, Gaby moved to Los Angeles, USA, and after winning "John Lennon Songwriting Contest" in 2006, she released her debut album Still The Unknown in 2008. After this two more acclaimed releases by Moreno have come out in the 2010s; Illustrated Songs (2011), and Postales (2012). A versatile artist, Moreno is not only noted for her solo work but she has also collaborated with various big names. One such example is the hit song “Kiss of Fire”, recorded alongside British singer and actor Hugh Laurie.

This nostalgic film concert laughs at silent film’s most comical duo Laurel and Hardy, accompanied by a big orchestra. Two funny Laurel and Hardy films from 1928 will be screened at this concert: Laurel and Hardy as musicians in You’re Darn Tootin’ and as accident-prone builders in The Finishing Touch. Timo Hietala and Pessi Levanto, who are among Finland’s leading film composers, have contributed the music to underscore the crazy world of Laurel and Hardy. The music will be performed by UMO Jazz Orchestra. Conductor Kari Heinilä. 

Tickets available at Lippupalvelu from 6,50 € incl. service fee (5 € + Lippupalvelu service fee from 1,50 €). This concert lasts 45 minutes without an interval.

Tomi Salesvuo East Funk Attack is a new group founded in 2013. With this energetic band drummer Salesvuo is proud to introduce a funk collection of new youngsters together with monster musicians like guitarist Marzi Nyman. They released their debut album EFA in August 2014 on Satomusic label.

Founding a bigger group to realise his vision of a contemporary funk sound had been ripening on Salesvuo's mind for two years before the birth of East Funk Attack. This vision includes combing the joy of playing, compelling melodies, hypnotic rhythms and the improvisational freedom of jazz into one irresistible musical package. With the East Funk Attack he has been able to turn his ideas into all this and more.

"To play music with energy and dynamics, to make music that happens here and now, and with musicians without genre frontiers is one of my foremost missions, challenges and dreams in life! When you play music with a nine-piece orchestra like East Funk Attack, you have a great chance to really lock in the groove and make your moves tight. Playing a steady funk groove with just one chord and breathing the hypnotic beat with your band mates is an unbelievable feeling”, describes Salesvuo.
