Female choir KYN will celebrate its 40th anniversary in the main concert hall of Helsinki Music Centre on Saturday, October 8th 2022 at 7 p.m. KYN has broken musical boundaries and enriched the female choir repertoire by commissioning new compositions regularly and renewed the female choir as an instrument.
In this gala concert, KYN, conducted by Kaija Viitasalo, invites the audience to enjoy powerful compositions and series. The joyful Outo Kantele – Strange Kantele series by Jukka Linkola unites the sounds of ethnic music and jazz. In the Keinuva tyttö series by Johanna Juhola the female voices are complimented by the accordion. The intensive music by Mikko Hassinen merges the choir with a jazz trio. With Anna-Mari Kähärä's expressive compositions KYN engages in compelling storytelling. Jukka Linkola's Loitsut (in English 'Incantations') series enchants by the union of singing and movement.
The gala concert will also feature the premiere performance of a three-part commissioned work composed by Anders Edenroth.
