Jazz Finland Live

The heavy-hitters in Finnish jazz, Reiska Laine Quintet, tour the country on 10 concerts during September 11–25. The Jazz Finland tour takes the ensemble to Turku, Salo, Kotka, Joensuu, Kuopio, Savonlinna, Espoo, Kokkola and Raahe. The last show of the tour stars the Porvoo Jazz Festival on Saturday, the 25th of September.

Over his 50-year long career, drummer Reiska Laine has played as a sideman in so many famous bands and orchestras, but never has he led his own ensemble. Now this mistake is finally corrected, and Laine has invited his dream team to his quintet. In Maestro’s own words, Reiska Laine Quintet features the “Ideal Rhythm Duo” of pianist-keyboardist Seppo Kantonen and double bassist Ulf Krokfors, and the “Sax Legends” Eero Koivistoinen and Juhani Aaltonen. All the musicians have been awarded with the prestigious Yrjö prize, so this combo really is the “who-is-who” in Finnish jazz. On the Jazz Finland tour pianist Kantonen will be substituted with the internationally acclaimed star of a younger generation, Alexi Tuomarila.

The quintet mesmerized the audiences and got raving reviews for their 2019 and 2020 concerts at Pori Jazz, Jazz-Espa and Tampere Jazz Happening. Their unbeatable experience and visionary expression show in their own original pieces and take the few Coltrane covers from the 1960s to another level.

Adele Sauros Quartet

Adele Sauros: tenor saxophone, Toomas Keski-Säntti: piano, Vesa Ojaniemi: double bass and Tuomas Timonen: drums

Adele Sauros Quartet, who performs compositions by Adele Sauros, was founded in 2012 and has released the albums Adele Sauros: My Spontaneous Mind (2016) and Adele Sauros Quartet: It's Who I Am (2014). The Adele Sauros Quartet has toured all over Finland at major jazz festivals and jazz clubs. Sauro's third album was recorded in August 2020 and has now been released under the name I Paint You. The album features Adele Sauros (tenor saxophone and soprano saxophone), Toomas Keski-Säntti (piano), Vesa Ojaniemi (double bass) and Tuomas Timonen (drums). 

Sauro's personal style is characterized by strong moods and a nuanced expression. The compositions, which boldly combine different styles, draw inspiration from the tradition of both Nordic and American jazz

Singing soloist Julia Korkman and Sergei Sokolov on piano will lead us to the rhythms of different genres and different languages in a concert When autumn arrives in Helsinki. During the evening you will hear songs such as: Visa om Helsingfors, You must believe in spring, Höstvisan, When autumn arrives in Helsinki, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.

Julia Korkman is a legal psychologist and singer who actively performs and performs on several albums. The best known of these is probably Kvar i mig (Still in Me), produced by Korkman together with Claes Andersson in 2018. Korkman currently performs as a soloist in several ensembles, performing jazz and songs and last sang in a concert sold out at the Baltic Jazz Festival in summer 2021 by Django Collective Helsinki. as a soloist.
