UMO: Blue Notes on Silver Screen,Kanneltalo, helsinki8.11. At 14:00

In one of UMO’s most interesting concerts this season we will plunge into the world of film music – be prepared for iconic tunes that will make you cry, laugh and be stirred inside!

Concert Blue Notes on Silver Screen comprises well-known and beloved score themes and nostalgic big band music from the 50s to today. In this matinee, UMO Jazz Orchestra will be leaded by conductor Kirmo Lintinen.

The programme will be composed of music from many film genres – animation to horror and hardboiled action – including numbers from such films as Anatomy of A MurderTouch of EvilThe Pink Panther and The Incredibles. The concert will feature pieces from the repertories of Duke Ellington, Raymond Scott, Henry Mancini and Monty Norman, among others.

Jazz and cinema were born around the same time, in late 19th century, but blue notes hit the silver screen big time only in the 50s and 60s when large string orchestras were replaced by the energy of big bands. Now UMO will unleash their energy and tackle the musical treasures of film classics giving them a subtle facelift.

Anni Elif Egecioglu is a Swedish-Turkish singer, cellist and composer based in Finland since 2008. The versatile artist is at home in a number of genres, including pop, classical and jazz and is a strong presence in many internationally recognised Finnish groups. Now she celebrates her first solo album Edith, written to the texts of one of Finland's best-known female poets, Edith Södergran. The album is a combination of ambitious compositions, futuristic soundscapes and improvisation. Anni Elif's musical language and her nuanced voice match perfectly with the visionary of Södergran's verse and the futurism and symbolism of the time.
