Admiral-level guitarist Varre Vartiainen navigates his brilliant orchestra with versatile musician Yona as his shining star. Formerly adventuring in the areas of Jazz, schlager, tango and rap, Yona is no stranger to Varre’s orchestra, having versioned Finnish stars Dingo and Pave Maijanen with them previously. This night is about dressing the nostalgic 80’s 90’s classics of Finnish rock to the enchanting veil of Jazz.

Befitting our centennial theme, the Teemu Viinikainen solo concert at Jääkellari is celebrating Thelonious Monk. Born in 1917, the pianist-composer revolutionized jazz both with his compositions and his personal playing style, providing a feast for this musical expedition by Viinikainen. To be expected: quirky tunes, intensive guitarism and contemporary Monkisms. Only in Viapori Jazz!
