Maxxxtet is a jazz quartet led by saxophonist Max Zenger. Initially, the group came into being when Zenger wanted to compose music that left plenty of room for surprises and spontaneity; indeed, his compositions are melodic, rhythmic and meandering. Maxxxtet’s first album Chapter 1 came out last year on Tampere-based Eclipse Music, and the sequel Chapter 2 has been scheduled to come out in autumn 2017 on the same label. While many young colleagues went for cross-over styles, Maxxxtet’s debut was praised by critics and fans especially for its refreshingly traditional acoustic approach to jazz.
