Jazz Finland Live

Guitarist Jeff Parker, known to many a music lover from the intrumental rock group Tortoise, brings his New Breed outfit to Helsinki and G Livelab. Their music brings together classic creative bop melodies and golden era beat memories. The end result is a vibrant blend of contemporary psychedelic soul jazz.

UMO and gospel choir Higher Ground Vocals offer a real treat to the friends of soul and gospel. In addition to legendary classics of soul and gospel, the programme consists of Higher Ground’s own repertoire.

The concert features Vanessa Haynes, a singer from Trinidad. She has been one of the lead singers of Incognito, the internationally acclaimed British Jazz funk band since 2008, with notable hits like Always There, Still a Friend of Mine, Don’t you worry bout a thing. Vanessa has worked as a backing vocalist to the Legend Van Morrison performing around the world with him. She’s worked and recorded with other artistes like Billy Ocean (US Tour 2009), Chaka Khan, LuLu, Anastacia (Here Come the Girls Tour 2009). Leon Ware (2009) and Mario Biondi (2010), Dave Stewart (2012)  She became one of the lead singers of the Internationally acclaimed UK Jazz/Funk band INCOGNITO in 2008.

The Higher Ground Movement is a boundary-breaking society of music, and Higher Ground Vocals is a part of this movement. As well as performing live, the twenty-five-singer ensemble has also appeared with various artists in television programmes Suomi Love, Tanssii Tähtien kanssa (Dancing with the Stars), and Tähdet Tähdet. The unique-sounding choir puts its soul into the music, and masters the styles and the nuances of black music. Conductor Mikko Hassinen, choir leader Hanna-Maria Helenius.
