Jazz Finland Live

The Panurama club series returns to the cosy downstairs venue, Lavaklubi, of the Finnish National Theatre. Hosted by vibeist Panu Savolainen, the spring season of the concert series sees a number of high-profile concerts featuring some of the foremost Finnish musicians. Panurama will throw all genre categories joyfully out of window, mixing folk music, classical music and jazz in a fresh and interesting way à la Savolainen.

The spring season will close in a concert that sees four expectional jazzers join forces. Last year, Panu Savolainen toured Finland with guitarist Teemu Viinikainen and bassist Jori Huhtala performing jazzy versions of Toivo Kärki's works to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this Finnish master composer. Now the trio has invited Finland's number one drummer, Teppo Mäkynen, to join their ranks. On the menu we will have not Kärki's compositions but Savolainen's new originals.

The concert is a tribute to the music of Juice Leskinen, a humane person’s perspective on behalf of people who need other people.

UMO’s concert features Jonna Tervomaa, Anna Puu, Aino Venna, Jimi Tenor, Jarkko Martikainen and Paleface, all among Finland’s foremost artists, tackling Juice’s classic songs in radical, surprising, funny and exciting new guises. How does Jarkko Martikainen interpreting Musta aurinko nousee with a large orchestra sound – and which classic will Paleface end up with?

Touring concert series, Il Mondo di Karri, hosted by pianist Karri Luhtala, features vocalist Franco Capone, guitarist Kari Antila and drummer Alessandro D'Anna -- all Luhtala's old friends and bandmates. 

We will be in for jazz standards and a few surprises, including a couple of pieces in French, vocalist Capone's second language.
