Club For Five & UMO: Mononen & Kärki – Erilainen tangokonsertti,Savoy-teatteri, helsinki5.3. At 20:00

keikka

Next spring, the 15-year old Club For Five vocal ensemble and 40-year old UMO will be touring some of the largest concert venues in Finland. The collaboration gives a tour of tango with a difference: evergreens by Unto Mononen and Toivo Kärki in new, innovative and entertaining versions. A New Take On Tango is a tribute to two legendary Finnish songwriters and will present a new perspective on their music as a highly unconventional tango ensemble – a big band with a five-part vocal ensemble – combine Finnish tangos with anything from bebop to 1960’s Motown soul. The arrangements for 16-piece big band and vocal ensemble were written by Mikko Hassinen, Marzi Nyman and Pessi Levanto, among others. UMO’s 40th and Club For Five’s 15th anniversary year coincides also with the 100th anniversary of the birth of late Toivo Kärki.

Elifantree and Splashgirl on a double-header tour!

Elifantree – formed by vocalist Anni Elif Egecioglu, saxophonist Pauli Lyytinen and drummer Tatu Rönkkö – will release their third album Movers and Shakers at the end of February 2015 on the Tampere-based record label Eclipse Music in Finland. The new album finds the band trekking further into a musical world of their own far beyond conventional genre boundaries. Elifantree released their debut album in 2010, and since then the band has travelled far in a short time becoming one of the most potential new acts in the Finnish scene. Their compositions have plenty of space and freedom, and on the new album the band has matured in their expression of electro-acoustic worlds of sound.

Elifantree first broke into the music scene at large through their success in the Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition in 2008. Their debut album Love & Trees was released in 2010 and the sophomore effort Time Out in 2012. Elifantree has performed at various venues and festivals both in Finland and internationally, constantly gaining more and more of a steady fanbase thanks to their energetic performances.

Anni Elif Egecioglu - vocal, synth, piano, etc.
