Josefiina Vannesluoma is a jazz singer and composer born in Turku, known, among other things, for her work with the vocal ensemble Signe. Her expression reflects a diverse interest ranging from jazz traditions to Brazilian music and contemporary classical free improvisation.

Mortal Lease, consisting of Finland's top young jazz musicians, interprets Vannesluoma's compositions to Edith Wharton's poems. The band's name refers to a sonnet series published in 1909 (translated as "Kuolevaissopimus" in Finnish), which, when interpreted autobiographically, depicts Wharton's dizzying infatuation and the struggle it caused in her writing and personal space at a mature age. The passionate metaphors sparkle in the hands of the jazz ensemble, turning into symphonic scenes. The Turku-based Flame Jazz Records will release the band's debut album in autumn 2023.
