Formed in 2021, New 4 began as jam sessions where the members brought their own compositions. Right from the start, the band's collaborative play was exceptionally strong and interactive, breathing life into the music in a unique way. This energy was soon documented on the band's debut album, Direction Zero, released by Eclipse Music in September 2023.

The members of the New 4 have been forging their careers individually for about a decade, and they are well-known for their involvement in several leading Finnish jazz ensembles. The essence of the band's expression lies in the unique musical world created by compositions with strong moods and bold improvisation. There is always the possibility of surprise in the music – the band members can break down the boundaries of a song's form and take improvisation to a remarkably delicate and expressive level. In terms of composition, the band's music aims to break traditional definitions of modern jazz and explore the interface between improvisation and written music from unexpected places.

In their compositions and ensemble playing, New 4 draws open-mindedly from influences including top contemporary modern jazz, popular and art music, visual arts, and the everyday sounds of the city.

Joyful moments and musical surprises are assured when Bianca Morales joins guitarist Martin Söderbacka and bassist Eevalotta Matikainen to perform familiar standards as well as original jazz songs from Bianca's records. This lineup gives the Finnish-Swedish jazz singer Bianca the opportunity to sing to the audience in several languages, whistle, scat, grab a Kazoo and more!

The trio invites you to come along for a fun, entertaining and exciting swing & jazz evening with beloved evergreens and newer original music from Bianca’s career, all accompanied by traditional and modern sounds of the guitar and double bass.

Tuomas Paukku Scription, representing a strong and distinctive vision in Finnish contemporary jazz, is releasing its second album and touring Finland's jazz arenas in November.

Tuomas Paukku Scription's style is rooted in modern jazz impressionism and post-bop, continually discovering new nuances and perspectives even on the outer fringes of jazz expression. The quartet, led by the guitarist from Jyväskylä, is composed of carefully selected top musicians and elegantly interprets Tuomas Paukku's compositions, richly and vivaciously reflecting the guitarist's open-minded interest in music. Scription's music, with its majestic Scandinavian atmospheres and gripping moods, has touched listeners across genre boundaries.

Tampere Jazz Happening offers a wide variety of styles and shades of jazz on both sides of the Tullikamari square. This year's country in the spotlight, Germany, is widely featured in the programme. At the opening concert, three younger generation bands present themselves to the Finnish audience. During the weekend, more German groups perform at the main concerts in the Pakkahuone.

As top names from the United States, three American jazz artists of the hip-hop generation take the stage at Pakkahuone: saxophonist Marcus Strickland, vocalist José James and vibraphonist Joel Ross. This time, the furthermost artists arrive from Australia and South Africa. The international line-up is completed by some of the most exciting names in European jazz right now. On Friday and Saturday, six bands are playing Finnish jazz at Telakka. The weekend's late nights end at the Klubi, with performances by London Afrobeat Collective and French-Ethiopian Kutu.

On Sunday, the festival concludes at Telakka, where German trombonist Janning Trumann and his band will play the closing concert.
