New York has been a meeting place for jazz musicians for a long time. Since the 50s, many jazz musicians have moved to New York, from all over the United States, because of the rich musical culture.
This collaboration started with a similar but more recent story. Tuomo Uusitalo and Tomi Kämäräinen met by chance in New York in front of the Smalls jazz club in the fall of 2018, as a result of which they started a joint production called New New Trio. They played their first gig together a few weeks later at New York's Spectrum.
Pianist Uusitalo has previously been heard in the ranks of UMO Jazz Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Post Modern Jukebox and Olavi Louhivuori. He has recorded his own music in 2016 and 2019 on the Freshsound record label. Kämäräinen released new music with his band Case Kämäräinen in early 2021 on the second album Joyride (Eclipse Music).
The cooperation was continued in the form of the Finnish tour in the fall of 2019 and concerts at the Laitila Jazz Kukko festival in the summer of 2020. At that time, Kaisa Mäensivu was the band's bass player and Kari Antila, a guitarist living in Belgium, was a guest. The band's music could be described as modern jazz, which freely adapts to jazz traditions.
