Finland was born 100 years ago, so was Dizzy Gillespie! Jukka Perko has a special reason to propose a toast, since it was Dizzy who offered the teenager from Huittinen a career launching boost by hiring him to his Europe and USA spanning tour, celebrating his own 70-years. Gillespie, who shaped the history of Jazz over several decades was maybe above all noted as a major figure in the development of bebop and modern jazz along Charlie Parker. To top that off in the late 1940’s, he injected a dose of Afro-Cuban rhythms into the timeline of jazz. Now, for this centenary celebration, Jukka and his trio will shake Dizzy’s cheekiest classics into a contemporary rhythm-cocktail; popping up in this party is also the blessed voice of Aili Ikonen!
