Jazz Finland Live

A concert of champions! In November 2016, Sointi Jazz Orchestra and Jyväskylä Big Band were crowned joint champions in the big band Finnish championship contest. Both of the winners will be heard in a concert for the first time, as Sointi Jazz Orchestra's Finnish tour makes a stop in Jyväskylä on April 22.

JBB kicks off the night with their set, after which  SJO will be treating us to the material of their acclaimed debut Syntymä (Birth), released last year, and the leader-composer Rasmus Soini's new compositions. Prepare yourself for cinematic sounds, well-honed arrangements and skilful improvisation - a meandering musical journey that will leave no one cold. 

Founded by young freelance musicians in 2013, Sointi Jazz Orchestra has become known for interesting one-off concerts where the music has been carefully tailored for the performers. The group has collaborated with the likes of saxophonist Juhani Aaltonen, Helsinki Student Theatre, singer Stina Koistinen and saxophonist Jukka Perko, and their big band version of the classic Christmas play Star Boys has delighted hundreds of listeners in the past three years it has been staged.
