One of Finland's foremost women choirs, KYN has established itself as a proponent of new music and experimental cross-over concert concepts. With the Music Counsellor Kaija Viitasalo in their lead, KYN have become known for their unusual repertory, expressive style and ensemble-like sound.
In their 35th anniversary year, KYN celebrates their 8th recording, which consists of music by the Teosto-winning drummer-composer, Mikko Hassinen. The album is composed of three parts, and falls into the category of "ethnic jazz", a new genre created by KYN that combines melodic elements and lyrics of Finnish folk music with the harmonies and rhythmics of jazz.
