After four successful years JazzPiknik open air Sunday festival says goodbye to Mbar and Lasipalatsi Square due to a massive construction project. This year we celebrate Jazz Federation’s 50th anniversary in a completely new location, namely the urban seaside culture & outdoor event center Helsinki Allas near the Kauppatori Market Place, under the Katajanokka ferrace wheel! Exciting times, as they’re building the area as we speak. The restaurant should open by Midsummer and the pools by August.

Also we have a new name, Jazzjatkot (‘afterparty’), which tags the Sunday event to Jazz-Espa, and also ‘jatkot’ gives a bonus round of jazz for those who return from Lonna island, where We Jazz collective runs their summer club every Sunday from noon to 6pm. Btw, we are actually stealing their DJs Matti and Eero, so you might want to follow them from the sea to the sea pool too…

The setting may have changed but the philosophy remains: like before, Jazzjatkot welcomes the whole family to enjoy the coolest jazzy music and leisurely picnic vibes. In addition to great vinyl DJs, Jazzjatkot is all about live music – both, on the outdoor and indoor stages – for free! At ‘jatkot’ we get to enjoy trumpeter Jukka Eskola’s new Soul Trio and rough jazzpunk riders Mopo with their new collabo with singer-songwriter Ville Leinonen on the terrace stage of Allas. When the sea breeze begins to get cooler in the evening, We Jazz DJs will take the party indoors to the club. The headliner of the afterparty is jazz & soul diva Nina Mya, leading her own sextet of top Finnish musicians.

Tuomo Uusitalo & Kari Antila Duo
Originally from Ylöjärvi, pianist Tuomo Uusitalo has studied music in Austria and performed around the globe. New York-based since 2012, Uusitalo has established himself in the jazz circles of the city and collaborated with a number of jazz stars, including Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Justin Brown, Dayna Stephens, Peter Slavov, Ulysses Owens Jr., David Schnitter, Rich Perry, Joe Farnsworth and Elliott Mason. 

At Jazzkukko, he will be joining guitarist Kari Antila.

Mauri Mikkola Quintet 
Laitila-native, today Turku-based electric guitarist Mauri Mikkola is the frontman of this outfit. The quintet was founded in 2013 and they released their debut Lux et Umbra last year. Performing their leader's music, the group explores the borderlands of harmony and dissonance and experiments on rhythm. MMQ incorporates influences from various genres, such as jazz, jazz fusion, classical music and prog rock.

18:00 Rusty Miller's: Henry Ojutkangas & Petri Heikkinen Duo
Henry Ojutkangas has collaborated with the world-famous pianist Champion Jaz Dupree and performed with a number of well-known oufits, such as Oiling Boiling Rhythm & Blues Band and Hot Club Trio. He will be closing the Elojazz 2016 with bassist Petri Heikkinen.
