Warm, rootsy and straight-ahead, Jukka Eskola Soul Trio may be behind this year's best-swinging TTT club concert.
Soul Trio is trumpeter Jukka Eskola's newest project, composed, in addition to the leading man himself, of Finland's number one drummer Teppo Mäkynen and organ guru Mikko Helevä. For additional warmth, they have invited bassist Ville Herrala to join the ranks for this concert.
Jukka Eskola, who names the likes of Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard as his major influences, has established himself as one of the fixed stars of Finland's jazz scene a while ago. The multi award-winning trumpeter is or has been a strong presence is such groups as The Five Corners Quintet, Ricky-Tick Big Band, Teddy Rok Seven, Jo Stance and Nuspirit Helsinki. In international cicles he has gained renown as the leader of his own groups Jukka Eskola Quintet and Jukka Eskola Orquesta Bossa.
