The Department of Jazz at the Sibelius Academy celebrates the centenary of Dizzy Gillespie (1917–1993), one of the great innovators of jazz and a dazzling instrumentalist who took trumpet playing to a new level. He was not only uncompromising in his art but also a showman with a sense of humour. This celebration concert features six of Finland’s finest trumpet players, who have each chosen their favourite Gillespie works to perform.
