Jazz From The Silver Screen - a night of
great music from the movies.

This evening is about the music that started life on the big screen, featuring works that are regarded as jazz ‘standards’ today, as well as interesting and eclectic selections from film scores interpreted through the vernacular of jazz.

Jazz and film have been strongly interconnected since the first feature-length “talking picture” in 1927. Such jazz greats as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday were featured throughout early Hollywood movies and biographies of musicians like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Charlie Parker, along with fictional portrayals of the jazz world, are a Hollywood staple. And film scores have frequently used jazz scores, either composed expressly or compiled from existing sources. Also Soviet films were famous for their songs. Music by Isaak Dunayevsky, ranged from classical pieces to popular jazz. Mikael Tariverdiev, Vladimir Dashkevich, Georgy Garanian - these are all the great names of the Soviet Jazz.

The seats will be arranged so that you can listen to the concert, while sitting and enjoying some drinks and maybe even snacks at the table of your
choice.
