”Conversations with my father”
27th of August 6PM Tenalji von Fersen, Suomenlinna
25€ | K18

This concert is all about the dialogue between a father and a son. Trumpet great Verneri Pohjola and his group perform the music of the legendary Finnish composer/bassist Pekka Pohjola. Keyboardist Tuomo Prättälä has prepared a set of samples from father Pohjola’s bass solos, which will form a platform for the group’s improvisation. Drummer Sami Nummela sees running as a way into deeper introspection and thus, into deeper understanding of music. This is why the marathon-loving jazzman has decided to run the vinyl LP influenced 33 1⁄3 laps on a 1.3km track which added together is, in fact, the length of a marathon. Joining him on this athletic adventure are sax player Jussi Kannaste and vibes man Okko Saastamoinen, and the first 66 people to jump in.  Midway through, the sweaty musicians will play a set, and another one as they finish. Who claimed that music would save you from sport?

 DIRECTIONS FOR RUNNERS:
The marathon will kick off at 11:00 am from the Nordic Culture Point sports field in Suomenlinna, and the route will be comprised of the surroundings of the field. The ticket costs 25 € which includes both the run and the concert ticket. The concert will begin as soon as the band has completed its run. All would-be runners aged 18+ and of suitable health conditions are advised to write to esa.toivanen@viapori.fi no later than August 15 to participate in the run. Please include your name, your postal address and your email address in the info.

DIRECTIONS FOR CONCERT GOERS:
The band will perform a free mini concert at the gate of the Nordic Culture Point as soon as the first 2-hour leg of the run is completed at 3:00 pm. After the marathon, the band will perform at the Suomenlinna venue  “Lentokonetehdas” (“Airplane Factory”) at approximately 4:00 pm.
