Sointi Jazz Orchestra is an 18-member band known for their personal sound and renewal of the big band tradition. SJO’s clubs offer a comprehensive overview of the world of new big band music, along with visiting composers and soloists.
At the first Sointi club in the spring, SJO dives into the music of Finnish free jazz pioneer, Seppo “Paroni” Paakkunainen. Paakkunainen is one of the most versatile musician-composer-arrangers in Finland, and although his first love was jazz music, his rich career includes everything from children’s songs through yoik, schlager, jazz, theater music and symphonies to church music. The concert will feature the gems of Paroni’s comprehensive big band production and the premiere of a new work for Sointi Jazz Orchestra.
