In the spotlight of this concert is one of the essential post-bop jazz albums, The Blues and the Abstract Truth, released in 1961.
American saxophonist and composer Oliver Nelson (1932–1975) gathered together the greatest jazz musicians of his time: Eric Dolphy, Paul Chambers, Freddie Hubbard, Bill Evans, George Barrow and Roy Haynes. The acclaimed septet album is known of its unique arrangements and the opening track Stolen Moments quickly became a jazz standard. As the name implies, the album’s compositions are based on the structures and moods of blues. Now the album is interpreted by UMO Helsinki Ensemble, which is a smaller ensemble picked from UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s sections.

Singer/multi-instrumentalist/producer Osmo Ikonen celebrates the release of his new album live at G Livelab Helsinki. Known for his soulful voice and as the lead singer and arranger for the highly acclaimed SuomiLOVE TV show, Osmo Ikonen is one of the most celebrated musicians in Finland. He is also noted for his work as the keyboardist in Sunrise Avenue.

The 2021 Elojazz Festival opens with a traditional Tuira Church concert. On Thursday 5.8. Marzi Nyman and Signe will perform at 6 p.m.
Marzi Nyman, who starts the opening concert, adventures between musical styles, improvising with the instruments and acoustics of Tuira Church. Signe has tested the boundaries of jazz, contemporary music and folk music. At Elojazz, Signe presents completely new material with exciting scat solos and the rich sound of double bass.
The duration of the concert is 2 h 15 min including intermission. Tickets for the concert are sold by Ticketmaster and Oulu10 service points.

On Thursday the world-renowned Norrbotten Big Band gets on stage with the extraordinary singer Lisa Nilsson.
Lisa Nilsson made her major nordic breakthrough in 1992 with Himlen runt hörnet and has had a successful international career as an artist ever since. The grammy nominated Norrbotten Big Band has firm roots in jazz tradition while branching into soul, funk and contemporary music.
Norrbotten Big Band featuring Lisa Nilsson at Elojazz will be an exciting blend of jazz, soul and Brazilian music.
