Jazzahead! European Jazz Meeting: Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri,Jazzahead!, bremen20.4. At 23:30

It’s not easy to sound fresh with a classic quartet formation of trumpet, sax, bass and drums. But this band does just that! As adventurous as their approach may be, the music is always based on accessible melodies and solid rhythms. Lyytinen’s compositions both emphasize the strengths of every musician and challenge the band to discover the yet unknown.
Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri was formed by Pauli Lyytinen based on the sounds of its musicians. The saxophonist got the inspiration from the fascinating, open tone of the instrumentation combining trumpet, saxophone, double bass and drums. In addition to Lyytinen the band consists of trumpeter Verneri Pohjola, bassist Eero Tikkanen and drummer Mika Kallio. According to Lyytinen all members have a dark, rough and wooden sound besides their own identifiable style.
