Helsinki-based jazz collective We Jazz not only awarded Bowman Trio with the annual Rising Star prize in 2015 but also released their first album last autumn. Imagining the colourful life of the mysterious adventurer J. Bowman, this trio will take you from the peak of Mount Everest to the blistering heat of Sahara so effortlessly that “dynamic communication” seems like an understatement.

So what is this Soul What? – Well, first and foremost, an abundance of soul and energy. Led by bassist Eevalotta Matikainen, the group hails from Ostrobothnia instead of Helsinki and performs in not one, not two, but three different languages. Soul What have been in existence for almost a decade, but collaboration with saxophonist Joonatan Rautio seems to have given even more defined edge to their sound. Their sophomore What Lies Ahead came out in autumn 2016.
