Jazz Finland Live
Tommy Lindgren Metropolis (www)

The first Flame Jazz Cruise of 2017, taking place on January 21 - 22 on cruise ship Viking Grace, offers a versatile selection of best Finnish jazz and jazz-related music.
Jazz and hip hop supergroup Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana have announced that they will be taking a long break from active performing. Rap trio formed by Paleface, Redrama and Tommy Lindgren, and 17-piece big band led by guitarist-composer ValtteriPöyhönen play their last show before this break at Flame Jazz Cruise.
In 2017 the jazz world will celebrate the 100th anniversary of jazz giants Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk. Flame Jazz will remember the late legends with two special concerts: saxophonist Jukka Perko, who toured around Europe and the U.S. in the ranks of Gillespie’s band, will be honouring the legend with his trio, while Finland’s number one jazz guitarist, Teemu Viinikainen, plays a rare Monk-themed solo set.
2017 is not only the 100th anniversary Gillespie and Monk but also that of Finnish independence. Indeed, the 10th Flame Jazz Cruise is one of the very first events of the project, Finland 100 Years.
The vitality of the Finnish language, for example, will be one of the themes of the cruise. Balkan-influenced prog jazz funk group Jargoslavia and the dark and deep Tommy Lindgren Metropolis show how our beloved language reaches new expressive heights in their hands.
As usual, the cruise treats us to jam sessions, unexpected encounters and other exciting surprises!
