Jazz Finland Live

Laboratory is a club series hosted by the award-winning Finnish jazz group Oddarrang. Laboratory continues on the path of In Cinema, a club series that the group hosted some years ago, and as its title suggests, experimentation and improvisation play a central role in the concerts.

Oddarrang is an experimental jazz group, formed by drummer and composer Olavi Louhivuori. The group melds together elements from jazz, classical music, world music and post modern rock for a stylish but delicate sound distantly related to those of Björk and Sigur Rós.

The band's debut came out in 2007 and it was awarded with the Emma prize for the best jazz recording the same year. Their third album, In Cinema, was published by the British label Edition Records. The material was based on four short films, screened in the In Cinema club series, and Edition Records has plans for releasing the pieces that come together in the now-running Laboratory club series.
