Jazz Finland Live

There will be a rare opportunity for Etnosoi! visitors to see and hear a gig by Krakatau, a band with a cult following, performing at Kuudes Linja. The band was started by Raoul Björkenheim, numbered among Finland's best-known jazz musicians and subsequently winner of the Yrjö award. Krakatau performed frequently in the nineties, all over Europe, collecting a faithful following and establishing an international reputation for their explosive, shamanistic, primeval music.
Krakatau's music combines various styles, such as jazz, rock, contemporary and world music with, particularly, African, Japanese and Korean influences. Indeed, the group has described their music as psyche-trance-ic-heavy-metal-ethno-freak. Over the years, the line up has varied, but at Etnosoi! besides Raoul, we shall be seeing Jone Takamäki and Uffe Krokfors, with Ilmari Heikinheimo on drums. At the gig we shall mainly be hearing new material, but for committed fans, the band has also promised a few tasty morsels from the past.
