A sisterhood of four voices and a double bass, Signe have previously melted the audience’s hearts at the We Jazz Festival and Flow Festival. In their compositions, influences drawn from contemporary classical and folk music coexist alongside those of Nordic jazz, and the music flows and meanders freely following the unmapped paths of improvisation.

Varjosto is an original and potent jazz-rock quartet led by guitarist Jere Haakana. In addition to jazz fans, their loaded jazz fusion atmospheres will also resonate with listeners who are less familiar with jazz. The quartet marries cinematic soundscapes and rock guitar-heroism with improvisation and characteristically jazzy tight-knit team play.

Less is more for bassist Jori Huhtala’s new group, Jori Huhtala 3. The warm and rounded foundation of the double bass; the agile and breezy saxophone; and the orchestral range of the piano from dark and stormy to tender tinkle and prepared percussiveness are the building blocks of their characteristically organic and acoustic sound. The trio’s acclaimed debut album came out earlier this year.
