UMO with Ingrid & Christine JensenSavoy-teatteri, helsinki23.5. At 19:00

In May, UMO plays a concert with Canadian sisters Ingrid and Christine Jensen. In the course of past twenty years, the Jensens have been touring the world together melding rich melodies with florid improvisations in a way that communicates beyond the telepathic. Both of them have also had successful careers of their own. Ingrid is a versatile New York-based trumpet player and Christine a Montreal-based saxophonist, arranger and composer. She is also the conductor of her own Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra.
Ingrid Jensen is widely regarded as one of the most talented trumpet players of her generation. After winning the Carmine Caruso Trumpet Competition in 1995, she has played in the orchestras of Maria Schneider and Darcy James Argue and performed with various other superstars of jazz from Clark Terry to Esperanza Spalding. Ingrid is also a skilful educator and, in addition to her regular teaching duties in New York, she has given master classes in numerous colleges and universities of music around the US and elsewhere.
Christine Jensen has won the Canadian Juno Award with albums Habitat (2014) and Treelines (2011) by her own orchestra, with Ingrid as the soloist on both records. Christine is one of Canada’s most brilliant jazz composers, and her music is regularly performed by the biggest jazz orchestras of Canada, the US and Europe, often with herself leading the orchestra.
In Savoy Theatre we will have a glimpse of the mindscapes of these Canadian world-class jazz musicians as UMO and Ingrid Jensen play music of the visiting conductor Christine Jensen.
