The Department of Jazz at the Sibelius Academy celebrates the centenary of Thelonious Monk (1917–1982), whose music remains fresh and inspiring to this day. Monk combined familiarity and novelty in his music in ways that continue to fascinate new generations of musicians and listeners around the world. The guest star at this concert is American bass player Darryl Hall, who won the distinguished Thelonious Monk Competition in 1996.
