The charming Hurmio Orchestra returns to its mission of taking on some of the most gigantic classic of the Finnish songbook. The ensemble has grown both older and younger since we last saw them and exhuberance of their expression is strong as ever. “Hurmio”, by the way, means something like “bliss” in Finnish.

Helsingin Juhlaviikot: Electroventure: Verneri Pohjola & Pascal SchumacherHuvila-teltta, helsinki23.8. At 19:00

The Festival’s Finnish-Luxembourg jazz evening transports the Huvila Festival Tent directly to the sphere of virtuoso talent. The brand new co-operative project of Verneri Pohjola and Pascal Schumacher, a rising talent in the European jazz scene, draws on the broad range of the electronic sound world.
A hot name in the domestic music front, Verneri Pohjola is one of today’s most soulful trumpeters, whose latest Bullhorn album has received both praise and recognition. Through his creative improvisational use of the vibraphone, Pascal Schumacher moves fluently from one genre to the next, from chamber music to modern jazz. This star line-up is completed by Mikko Perkola on the viola da gamba and Samuli Kosminen on the drums.
