Summer Jazz Club begins at Poppari! Organised from May to August, the Summer Jazz Club presents every month two up-and-coming jazz groups with original material. Indeed, the philosophy of the club series is to provide visibility to new groups and, thus, further the local jazz culture. The club series is supported by the Finnish Music Foundation.

Henriika Steidel Quintet, led by the eponymous vocalist, represents the local jazz life of Jyväskylä. They perform Aaron Parks' repertory but with a distinctive touch of their own: Steidel has invested the originally instrumental songs with lyrics in German. Her sidemen are known from various other projects, ranging from Jyväskylä Big Band to Swallow the Sun.

Samuli Rautiainen Trio, hailing from Helsinki, let their head travel all the way back to the classic Blue Note piano trio sound while keeping their feet firmly in the 2010s. Rautiainen's compellingly swinging style is completed by two members of trio Katu Kaiku, this year's Finnish representative in the Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition. Bassist Saastamoinen plays also in Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company, whereas drummer Heikkinen has become known as a member of the fine trio Virta -- also a Young Nordic Jazz Comets star.
