Jazzliiton kiertueella/On FJF Tour: Sid Hille Contemporary Collective,Pikkuteatteri, lahti16.5. At 19:00

There is no barrier between jazz and contemporary music, but a gap, an open space, which activates the imagination and enables spontaneous creation. This applies to the composer and the performing musician alike. When the musician improvises, on his own or as part of an ensemble, he follows the map, the structure created by the composer, making decisions in a fraction of a second – what to play and when, whether to lead or accompany, to play or not to play that particular note at that particular moment – whilst keeping in mind the piece as a whole and responding to the moves of the collective, an organic entity that he is a part of.

The group released their debut album Outer Space (SatnaMusic) in November 2014.

“Their sound was extremely pleasant to the ear live – the context of improvised music did particular justice to Nikula’s bass clarinet.”
- Pasi Virtanen in his blog, “Jazzpossu”

"All three are heavily committed professionals, recognized around northern Europe and beyond as artists at the tops of their individual trees.” – All About Jazz

Jorma Kalevi Louhivuori, trumpet
Antti Lötjönen, double bass
Olavi Louhivuori, drums

The idea of Sun Trio started to take shape when the Louhivuori brothers were touring Asia and Australia in mid-2000s. The idea became actuality when the trusted and sure-handed bassist Antti Lötjönen joined them. Soon after, the ambitious trio was doubly victorious in the Young Nordic Jazz Comets Final, organised that year in Iceland: the trio won the competition, and the trumpeter, Kalevi Louhivuori, was chosen as the best soloist.

Today, Sun Trio has moved on to big leagues. Last summer they toured the U.S., playing at some of the biggest jazz festivals of the country, including Rochester Jazz Festival, Vancouver Jazz Festival and Victoria Jazz Festival, and at a number of selected clubs, such as New York's Nublu.

The trio's anticipated performance as a part of the TTT club series is also one of the Finnish album-launching shows to celebrate their third recording, entitled In The Dreamworld. The disc came out on the celebrated Italian label CAM Jazz, which has previously released material from such giants as Kenny Wheeler and Chick Corea.

The trio's frontman, Jorma Kalevi Louhivuori, has performed with, among others, European Jazz Orchestra, Dave Liebman and Bob Mintzer, and he is a strong presence in such Finnish groups as Ricky-Tick Big Band, The Northern Governors and singer Yona's Orkesteri Liikkuvat Pilvet. Neither do Antti Lötjönen's and Olavi Louhivuori's CV's pale in comparison: both men are among Finland's most sought-after and respected jazz artists.

Equipped with telepathic skills of musical communication, Sun Trio is a group capable of both serene, meditative soundscapes and explosive outbursts of raw energy.

Showtime 10PM, doors 9:30PM.

Tickets 12 €.
