Ilmavoimien Big Band (Finnish Air Force Big Band) is joined by a very special guest, the American-born, today Sweden-based vocalist LaGaylia Frazier, in concert Soul Fever. We are in for some energetic Motown soul, full-blooded funk and selected jazz standards from the repertoire of Maynard Ferguson.

LaGaylia Frazier is a critically acclaimed vocalist who has collaborated with a number of Swedish jazz orchestras, appeared in musical West Side Story produced by Malmö Opera and competed in the Swedish semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The concert is conducted by trombonist/composer/conductor Antti Rissanen, one of the most important figures of the Finnish big band scene. In addition to conduction, he composes for big bands actively. His previous collaborations include Settlement Big Band, Stadia Big Band, UMO Jazz Orchestra and Espoo Big Band and currently he acts as the conductor of Imatra Big Band,

There is no barrier between jazz and contemporary music, but a gap, an open space, which activates the imagination and enables spontaneous creation. This applies to the composer and the performing musician alike. When the musician improvises, on his own or as part of an ensemble, he follows the map, the structure created by the composer, making decisions in a fraction of a second – what to play and when, whether to lead or accompany, to play or not to play that particular note at that particular moment – whilst keeping in mind the piece as a whole and responding to the moves of the collective, an organic entity that he is a part of.

The group released their debut album Outer Space (SatnaMusic) in November 2014.
