Jazz students of Sibelius Academy organise an end-of-the-term-concert, "Spring Thing Jazz", at Bulevardin kahvisalonki. There will be three very different jazz bands on stage: Sami Nummela solo, Try For Kate and Holger Marjamaa Trio. The event is produced by the students themselves and it forms a part of a module in music business, taught by Matti Nives, the artistic director of creative office, We Jazz.

Drummer Sami Nummela will approach well-known jazz standards with the help of nothing else but his trusted drumkit. His search for a new angle is built upon such premises as simplicity, calm and space.

Try For Kate is a trio whose members come from three different countries: Max Zenger (sax, cl, FIN) Mike McCormick (gtr, CAN) and Daniel Sommer (drs, DEN). The unusual instrumentation - woodwinds, electric guitar and drums - means fresh expressive potential, and, indeed, it is enhanced by the alteration between composed and entirely improvised material.

Holger Marjamaa Trio is a Finnish-Estonian group, whose leader, pianist Holger Marjamaa (EST), has already performed with some of the most eminent jazz musicians of the globe, including Dennis Chambers and Lonnie Smith. Heikko Remmel (EST) belongs to the most sought-after young double bassists of his country and drummer Anssi Tirkkonen (FIN) is known for his clockwork-like skills at the drumkit.
