April Jazz: Akseli Gallen-Kallela 150v,Tapiolasali, Espoon kulttuurikeskus, espoo26.4. At 18:00

April Jazz will commemorate Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s 150th anniversary with a multi-artistic celebratory concert featuring a number of soloists, including singers Anu Komsi and Jorma Hynninen. Akseli lives on in the Finnish collective memory as a national icon, renaissance man, cosmopolite, illustrator of the national epic Kalevala, bohemian artist, father and passionate soul. The one-off concert hosted by Jarmo Saari on the Tapiola Hall stage will feature top names from a variety of artistic fields, along with Gallen-Kallela’s WORKS
, texts and alter egos. The music inspired by Akseli’s life and art will weave together a piece that marries choreographies by Dance Company Glims & Gloms dance company and the visual world created by Jenni Valorinta.
Performers: Jorma Hynninen, Anu Komsi, Jarmo Saari, Marzi Nyman, Jukka Eskola, Niko Kumpuvaara, Atte Kilpeläinen, Eerik Siikasaari and Samuli Kosminen. Dance Company Glims & Gloms will instil the experience with elements of dance and theatre. The projections for the performance are by Jenni Valorinta.

Tapiola Big Band
The final day of April Jazz will begin with an afternoon dance ball. This time, the tunes will be provided by Tapiola Big Band, led by Jukka Linkola. Saxophonist Pentti Lasanen and singer Minna Lasanen will appear as guest soloists. No advance tickets are available for the dance ball. Tickets can only be purchased on-site. The doors will open one hour before the event, i.e. at 1 pm. The band will PLAY two sets with a short breather in between.
The traditional April Jazz concert of the young musicians studying at the Ebeli pop and jazz department of the Espoo Music Institute.
