Jazz Finland Live
Silent Music: UMO & Johanna Iivanainen,Espoon tuomiokirkko, espoo27.3. At 19:00

For nearly twenty years, UMO has played a special Silent Music concert at Easter. These concerts in Holy Week have already become a well-liked tradition among the jazz-digging citizens. This year UMO performs with singer-songwriter Johanna Iivanainen, known to Finnish audiences for her performances in the TV program SuomiLOVE and her collaborative projects with Antti Sarpila, Eero Koivistoinen and Jukka Perko, to name a few. The elegant vocalist was awarded with Jazz Emma in 2005 and voted the best female jazz singer of the year by a jury of critics of the magazine Jazzrytmit in 2006.
These unpretentious spiritual concerts go well together with the pious sentiment of Holy Week. UMO plays familiar and soothing Finnish hymns, arranged by the conductor of the concert Mikko Hassinen.
–I look forward to the concerts with UMO in Holy Week. This is absolutely one of the dearest sets I’ve had the opportunity to perform with UMO. Mikko Hassinen’s spectacular arrangements made me realize how beautiful a big band sounds like in a church hall and how it all strengthens the devotional spirit of the hymns. Holiness and peace resonate throughout the soul, says Johanna Iivanainen.
